About
Caz Bonsai
A life rooted in care, craft and clarity.
Caz Scott is one of just a few professional female bonsai artists in the world She has spent over three decades working with trees—shaping, studying and refining her practice through careful observation, hands-on learning, and a deep respect for the living material.

How it all started
Caz’s journey began as a teenager in the 1990s, when she first joined her local bonsai club and started experimenting with garden centre material. At a time when bonsai in the UK was still finding its feet, she dug in—literally—and taught herself the fundamentals through practice and persistence.
As her skills grew, she began attending shows, meeting other enthusiasts, and eventually travelling further afield to study with some of the most respected names in the global bonsai community.
She has spent time learning in Japan and Europe, and continues to train with leading artists to sharpen her eye and refine her techniques.
Awards & Recognition
Caz’s work has been exhibited at major bonsai events across the UK. Notable highlights include:
-
Expo Bonsai UK – Runner-up in 2022 and 2023
-
British Shohin Association – President’s Prize, 2005
-
Multiple features in bonsai publications and community events
But while recognition is appreciated, her focus remains on the trees—and the people who care for them.

What makes her different
Caz’s teaching style is clear, warm and hands-on. She doesn’t believe in mystery or ego. Instead, she’s committed to making bonsai more accessible and less intimidating—especially for newcomers, women, and those who feel underrepresented in the community.
She is especially known for her work with pine and juniper species, and she takes a long-term view with all her trees—prioritising health, structure and sustainability over short-term showiness.
